Chair

Peter Cochrane has over 20 years experience in senior executive leadership and governance roles in the public and private sectors. 

Peter is a Vice President and Councillor of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and chairs the boards of the Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS) and the Australian Tropical Herbarium. He is a director of TierraMar Ltd and the SIMS Foundation. He is a member of the Executive Council of the Protected Area Learning and Research Collaboration, and the Marine National Facility’s National Benefit Assessment Committee.

Peter is an adjunct Professor in the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Science at the University of New South Wales. He is a part time Commissioner with the NSW Independent Planning Commission, and an Assistant Commission with the NSW Natural Resources Commission. He is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the Resolution Institute, and Ecotourism Australia. Peter was Director of National Parks and head of Parks Australia from 1999-2013. He has a BSc and Master of Public Policy from ANU.
