Thanks for a huge year and welcome to Dr Lindsey Gray and Julie Bishop

As we wrap up the year, I’d like to share with you our Annual Report where we reflected on a transformative year for the Institute. In 2024, we look forward to further strengthening the many partnerships that enable us to undertake vital research designed to protect this unique wonder.

To assist us in delivering this mission we have recruited two local experts in their field, Dr Lindsey Gray as Research Program Manager and Ms Julie Bishop in the role of Marketing and Communications Manager. Together we remain focused and committed to promoting understanding and stewardship of the GBMA.

Dr Lindsey Gray

Lindsey credits growing up in Blackheath and exploring the Blue Mountains with her family as a child for her interest in and love of the natural world. With undergraduate and PhD qualifications in biological science and a graduate certificate in journalism, Lindsey has worked in a diverse range of related professional roles including 18 years affiliated with the University of Sydney, working as a science television presenter, and more recently pursuing hands-on ecology and conservation management in New Zealand.

‘Weeds, introduced animals, climate change, and human disconnection are real, insidious threats to the GBMA. I’m excited to have joined a practical minded, aspirational team who are ready to energetically engage and collaborate with community to better understand and protect the GBMA.’ (Lindsey Gray)

Ms Julie Bishop

Based in the upper Blue Mountains Julie has been fortunate to engage with the GBMA over the past 10 years. She has held leadership positions with Destination NSW, NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and Blue Mountains City Council and is a volunteer member of the Blue Mountains Tourism Management Committee. With 28 years experience in marketing, branding, communications, community engagement and stakeholder management across the visitor economy, protected area and transport sectors, Julie brings an extensive set of direct and transferable skills to the Institute.

‘I’m passionate about natural and cultural heritage, sustainability and collaborating with purpose. To work in conservation with a values-aligned organisation for the protection of the place I live and love is extraordinary and humbling. It also provides the opportunity to ‘give back’ by contributing the skills and experience I’ve developed throughout my career’ (Julie Bishop)
