Keeping the Blue Mountains Blue

Dear Friends,

This month, along with building our Eco-Arts program and continuing our eco-monitoring with support from Citizen Scientists, we welcomed Dr. Emma Spencer to the team as Research Program Manager.

Emma brings extensive research experience and a strong commitment to the Blue Mountains, having recently completed her PhD at Sydney University on vertebrates, insects, and plant communities associated with carrion in the region and beyond. She is also coordinating an Australia-wide post-fire monitoring project with WWF and is an active member of her local RFS, as well as a bushwalker, canyoner, and conservationist.

I look forward to working with Emma as we build our research capacity to gain a deeper understanding of the threats to the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area and provide greater support for effective and inclusive conservation of the GBMA and protected areas globally.

This month's newsletter covers our community engagement efforts, plans for a collaborative research agenda, evidence-based positions on conservation, and an upcoming field trip for Master's students studying large-scale conservation in practice.

As we strengthen the work that we are doing and expand our outreach we are looking for supporters to join us on our mission. If you’re able to, please sign up for regular tax deductible donation today so that we can keep the Blue Mountains Blue.

All the best

Jane Powles
