In October 2021, the Blue Mountains World Heritage Institute and the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre co-hosted a free weekend of online seminars celebrating and showcasing the eco-arts in the Blue Mountains and beyond.
These seminars included the launch of the online Recovery exhibition - the culmination of a creative collaboration between artists, writers and local citizen scientists conducted throughout the lockdown, exploring human responses to and the recovery of our natural world after the devastating fires of 2019/20.
Below are the videos of each individual seminar, grouped under the two ‘themed’ sessions that the seminars were presented.
SATURDAY: Planetary Health and the Arts
On Saturday 23rd October, seven concurrent seminars explored the big picture of Planetary Health and the Arts. This session examined the theoretical and the philosophical importance of the arts in communicating ecological science.
SUNDAY: The Eco-Arts in Practice
On Sunday 24th October, another series of seven concurrent seminars explored the eco-arts in practice, showcasing ecological artworks from practitioners across Australia. This session included highlights from the BMWHI ‘Recovery’ creative arts project and online exhibition.
