On Sunday 31st October, Dr Ian Wright and project intern Holly Nettle ventured out into the field to collect new sets of data from the swamps we are monitoring at Lawson, Bullaburra and Medlow Bath, as part of our Blue Mountains Upland Swamps project.
Dr Ian Wright shared pictures (in the slideshow below) from the expedition on Twitter.
As was unfortunately expected, the collapsing swamp at Bullaburra is being invaded by weeds.
Posting about the fieldwork on Twitter, Dr Ian Wright noted that invasive weeds like blackberry and honeysuckle are flourishing in the collapsing Bullaburra swamp and reminded us “that urban development can trigger cascading environmental impacts.”
The data and samples that Ian and Holly collected will now be analysed and will soon be added to our online database on BioCollect as well as the database that feeds into our decision support tool.
